Layout for the loft kitchen is complete. I’ve been using a little piece of software called Live Interior Pro 3D to mock up the rooms in proper dimensions coupled with the look and feel. In addition, I’ve discovered Google’s 3D Warehouse which has been fantastic for models from nearly any manufacturer. Retro furniture, brand items from Moen, Ikea. Appliances from most manufacturers and full on kitchen models are all over it.

Evidently we're getting ready for communion in this shot

The render of this kitchen has an undercounter fridge with a 18″ drawer on it’s left, with two doors that hold a slide out trash container. The 15″ drawer on the left will hold other kitchen necessities. The 24″ door on the far left will be a dishwasher. The 3 cabinets on top will be wired up to allow lights on the underside as well as led strips on the inside.

Dig it daddy-o

We also have a serigraph from one of my favorite artists, Derek Yaniger that we’ve been looking for a good place to frame up. This part of the kitchen might just work out well for it.

We also picked up some Marimekko wallpaper from Finnstyle a few months back. We’re tossing the idea of using it on the kitchenette wall. The flooring has been ordered and is 4 1/4″ white maple. I’m anxious to see how close we get to this shot… we’ll see.

Long shot of the room

The rest of the room is going to be carpeted in this wool/bottle cap blend from Godfrey Hirst. The furniture hasn’t been figured out for the room but I tossed in something to get some ideas.

Here we are tossing in a vent for the new plumbing. Fun thing about it is when you’re installing, there’s no way to communicate other then to talk through the tube like two cans on a string. What’s even better is when  you’re dad connects it to the system without telling you so when you go to talk through the tube you get a nice spalsh of poopy methane to the face.

Last year there was 3 ft of snow at this time. We got lucky.

The floor joists are in, the OSB is in and we’re ready to get our first glimpse of what this room is going to look like with a floor.

There will be a small kitchenette area in the far corner

Big weekend! Last week the mercury went below freezing so we decided to kick things off by knocking random holes in the wall.

Massive glory hole

Actually, that hole was the first step in securing the floor above we’re building in this room. After a hefty lumber load up four flights of stairs, the dancing/gym/ballet room is beginning it’s transformation into a dual floor, entertainment complex.

Scaffolding? We don't need to stinkin' scaffolding.

Between Dad, Uncle Danny and my self we managed to put the majority of this sucker up in a day.

Alrighty. We have our first lamp post in. It took a lot of digging, routing and covering, but we’re on our way. We used a 16in drill to bore through the top of the pole through to the back. We then filled the hole with silicone and attached the box to the rear.

We'll just spray paint the wires, you won't see em at all

As mentioned earlier, I wanted to share some early render comps of the loft. Doing this allows us to determine how far from the windows we want the loft to extend, how much light it will let it, as well as determine what type of light we’ll be putting in the ceiling once extended.

Let the loft remodel commence! After cutting a couple of holes in the ceiling we’ve determined the best way to extend the loft and have begun compiling a materials list. The loft will come just a couple of feet from the windows. Here’s Pops putting in the first line. I’m using a 3D program called Live Interior 3D and have mocked up what the room will look like after. I’ll post a couple of screen shots soon.

Measure twice, cut once

We also spent Sunday digging new lines from the house to the garage to get electricity to the posts. We’re running out of time before the snow hits but we’re hoping to get everything wired up within the next two weeks. Digging trench lines is hard work when you’re going up hill, surrounded by boulders. I’m ready to wrap up and start on the insides of the house.
