Occasionally once or thrice I take a picture of a project I’m working on but it never makes it onto the internets. Last fall I leveled the floor in the new hallway where the solarium used to stand and put these acacia wood tiles in. It ended up looking. really neat. They hook together so they […]
With the walls completely finished in the front portion of the house we were finally able to rip up the old carpet on the second landing and in the second bedroom, which is my office. We installed a some beautiful (and expensive) New Zealand wool carpets from Godfrey Hirst called “Carramar”. This stuff feels like someone […]
It only took 2 guys and 2 years but we’re happy to announce the main floor stairs are completely done. We wrapped up building the built-in and I put on the finishing touches of trim leaving me with ZERO things to do on this beast. In case you forgot where this all started from here’s a refresher… […]
Big milestone this week as I managed to finish up the cabling for the stairs. It was a bit nerveracking figuring out the precise placement for these as they couldn’t be centered on the posts as it would have been to far from the side end of the stairs.

Getting the final touches done on the stairs. Dad helped create the bottom post so we could put in a custom cable rail system. It’s a bit tricky to do, but luckily we had the deck to get some practice on. The cables are tensioned on the bottom post and the bolts are covered with […]
Occasionally I get bored with not finishing a project so I start another one. To be fair, I pick stuff I can do my self, like putting a new bath vanity. To make things easy on my self I tried finding a 48″ sink to fit perfectly in the space on the second floor bath. […]
It’s the middle of January, it’s -17F outside with a windchill of -39F. What better time to pull out the tools and create a make shift work room in the middle of your living room. So where are we? Over the last six months, we built a temporary stair-case out of construction lumber so we […]
